Karen Otten Obituary

Karen L. Otten (nee Benn) Beloved wife of the late Thomas H. Otten, Loving mother of Christina R. Otten, Darlene A. Kisner, and Tammy C. Otten. Devoted grandmother of Dustin E. Kisner and Cody T. Kisner. Karen passed away very unexpectedly in the early hours of Sun. Dec. 27, 2020 due to complications after a fall. Karen married Thomas Otten, her one true love, on October 24, 1964, they spent over 50 joyous years together. She was a wonderful mother who raised three daughters with love, joy, and encouragement. As a grandmother, she absolutely adored her two grandsons. “Grandma” was very involved in the day-to-day activities of the boys, providing love and support throughout her time with them. Karen was a graduate of Withrow High School, and still enjoyed regular outings with some of her sorority sisters. She attended Miami University, and then later, in 1984, received an Associate Degree in Nursing from Raymond Walters College. As an entrepreneur, she started a successful secretarial business serving many clients in the Cincinnati area. She continued working as a secretary at various law firms throughout her career. Karen was a member of the Oakley Lodge Eastern Star for many years. She volunteered at both Shriners Hospital and the Cincinnati Zoo. A long time member of New Thought Unity church, she served as a prayer chaplain. She recently started a prayer group in the Northern Kentucky community, where she was living. Karen enjoyed being social and active playing Bunko, Euchre, and Bingo with friends. She enjoyed travel, visiting Hawaii, Punta Cana and Mexico. The continental U.S. was her favorite, having an affinity for the beaches of the East Coast. Karen was an avid animal lover teaching her children, by example, to rescue strays. She insisted Tom pull over and stop to save a turtle in the road. In her later years she spent time volunteering at various shelters where she was involved with helping animals.
