My Sweet Angel: My Bride
When Sherrie passed away, the world lost an incredibly courageous and honest woman, full of integrity. She faced everything head on, looking at a problem dead in the eye until she was resolved with a solution.
I see those very same qualities in both of her sons, Adam and Dale, as they take head on the difficulties and blessings of raising their families. And our Nephew, Jason raising his family has been inspired by Sherrie’s character.
I have been so blessed to share these last 18 years with Sherrie (17 in Marriage). I have never met anybody so courageous and honest. Even though there were some occasions I wish she had the decency to lie to me or sugar coat her opinion of me at times. I told her many times that I wished I could take her place in the fight, but every time she told me, “No you don’t.”
I’ve learned during these past three months to face things head on and do the next right thing as it comes. I’ve learned to do all the things that Sherrie always took care of, but I don’t do it as well. Going forward if I have half of Sherrie’s courage, I will be successful taking care of the family business and our home. Adam, Dale, and Jason will also do well with just half of Sherrie’s courage. I will never forget our brutal battle with cancer, but I don’t want that to be my lasting memory of Sherrie.
My angel, you saved my life and shaped me into the man I have become. I promise that I will spend some time in thought – every day. That I will laugh – every day. Anybody who has ever met Sherrie certainly has enjoyed her laughter. I love remembering the times that she couldn’t even speak because she was laughing so hard, and we all had to wait for her in order to hear what tickled her so much. And, Angel, I will allow my emotions to lead me to tears – every day. Just please keep your promise to haunt me in the still of the night by nudging me with your leg.
I thank God for our faith, my angel. That is why I know that you are at peace with our Lord and you suffer no more. And from faith, I will have the strength to take life head on and support our family. Rest well, my bride. Save a dance for me when I see you again.
